Michael Martin

Michael Martin became a full time professional musician in 1980 after completing studies with Michael Watson (Spanish Guitar Centre Bristol) then John Mills and eventually, at the Royal Northern College of Music. He made his first recorded album that same year called On The Road featuring a mixture of classical guitar favourites mixed with his own compositions and arrangements.

His early career was ‘kick-started’ by Harvey’s Wines of Bristol who sponsored his sell-out debut at the Arnolfini concert hall Bristol. Michael then went on to divide his time between teaching, composing, and performing at music festivals throughout the UK.

Michael went on to give thousands of solo and ensemble performances in schools and colleges, festivals and arts centres whilst developing a keen interest in working with singers, both choral and solo. He eventually formed his own troupe called the Aqua Vitae Ensemble.

By the late 1990's due to pressing family commitments Michael decided to take an extended break from being a full time professional musician.

He then turned his attention to recording engineering allied to computer programming which became another absorbing combination of interests. During this time, he still continued to perform occasionally for private functions and fund-raising events only. However, the consistent feedback from those in attendance, was that his musical abilities should no longer remain ‘hidden’ from general audiences.
